How To Grow Cinco De Mayo Rose:
Select a sunny garden location with enough room to allow this vigorous rose to reach its full size potential. Roses perform best when grown with the maximum amount of sunlight available.
Like most roses, Cinco De Mayo prefers well-drained garden soil. If needed, amend soil prior to planting with organic compost. Do not use animal manure which can cause tip burns and stunt growth.
Dig the planting hole slightly larger than the container which the rose was grown in. Work in a handful of slow-release organic fertilizer prior to planting. Stay away from high nitrogen fertilizers such as Miracle-Gro or Scotts. Water well after planting.
For best flower production water on a regular basis throughout the season. Avoid overhead watering if it all possible, and water in the early morning.
An own root rose, Cinco De Mayo rose is a vigorous grower, and will reward you with a continual floral display if you deadhead on a regular basis.
To trim and shape this rose simply use a pair of sharp pruners and prune as needed. Each cut made will result in a more heavily branched rose.
Apply a liquid kelp organic fertilizer as need during the growing season. Do not fertilize past the end of August to discourage new foliage growth in the fall.
In the fall, leave spent flowers on to allow the rose to set rosehips which wild birds use as food. Trim back any branches that may be broken during winter storms.
Hardy to USDA gardening zone 3, no winter protection is needed for this plant.
